Sunday house fire closes Route 7

American Red Cross helping family

A structure fire at the residential 7 Orems Lane this Sunday, Dec. 27, closed Route 7 from Sharp Hill Road to Old Highway for about an hour.

According to Wilton Fire Marshal Rocco Grosso, two engines, one ladder truck and a tanker were deployed, and the fire was extinguished by handline in approximately 15 minutes.

Fire agencies from Weston, Westport and New Canaan responded to the scene to offer mutual aid, and Georgetown and Norwalk Fire Departments covered Wilton Fire headquarters while Wilton firefighters were dispatched.

Grosso said the burn area was a room and the contents of that room, within the home. The fire is still under investigation, he said, though he disclosed that there were no injuries suffered by anyone involved.

A press release from the American Red Cross said the humanitarian organization is providing relief to the residents of 7 Orems Lane, a family of “three adults.”

Two volunteer responders, Mike Vincelli and Angela McCabe, “provided assistance to meet the family’s immediate needs,” the press release said.

Also provided, according to the press release, was an envelope of information useful to families recovering from fires that includes tips on cleanup, notification of important contacts, dealing with damaged items and more.

The Red Cross is also furnishing the family with “comfort kits” that contain personal care items people often leave behind when rushing to escape structure fires, such as toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving supplies and other items.
